History
The Student Center and the student Program Board have collaboratively sponsored the Late Night in the Zone programs since 2006.
Popularity of the program has made it a hallmark of the Student Center and a Shepherd tradition.
Originally piloted as consecutive Friday and Saturday nights one weekend a month. This format proved to be too staff and resource-intensive and the program was reduced the following year to one approximately one Friday a month.
In 2008, one Late Night in the Zone program was replaced with a Late Day in the Zone event. This event operates on the same Late Night template but is held from 6 pm to 10 pm to accomodate more non-traditional students and commuters.
Late Night Programming Goals
Retain and engage students on the weekends
Expand Shepherd’s sense of community by utilizing Student Center facilities and resources
Reduce the number of alcohol-related incidents on campus by providing healthy alternatives
Provide opportunities for students to connect with staff and faculty outside the classroom.
What Students Say . . .
My friends and I never miss a Late Night!
Late Night is the best party on campus.
Thanks for giving us a great break at the end of a stressful week.
Even as a non-traditional student in my 40s, my husband and I always feel welcome and have fun at Late Night.
We came for the food but ended up staying all night.
